The Albergaria-a-Velha City Council will temporarily lend the collection of the future Museum of Water Resources to the municipality of Seia, announced today by the city council.
Under the terms of a protocol signed on Sunday with the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) and the municipality of Seia, the historical and documentary collection will be loaned, for six months, to be exhibited at the Serra da Estrela Interpretation Centre.
“The collection illustrates the complex historical relationship between public services, water management and the social and economic dynamics in the country,” incorporating books, documents, photographs and technological instruments that reflect the know-how of professionals from the former Hydraulic Services.
The protocol signed between the three entities aims to ensure that the pieces do not remain confined to reserves, “materialising a joint commitment to protect, value and keep accessible to the public this historical heritage. The collection in question, owned by the Portuguese Environment Agency, is intended to integrate the future Museum and Historical Archive of Water Resources.
The Albergaria-a-Velha City Council presented the museological project which should take advantage of the structure of the old Valmaior Paper Factory, with a roughly 2,300-square-meter building, beside the Caima River.
The new facility will consist of a reception area, a museological core with exhibition space, storage and archive, reading room, technical spaces, work offices, an interior courtyard and a green area.
