The temporary prohibition on bathing at Nazaré Beach has been lifted, after new analyses of the water quality showed values compatible with bathing, announced by the Nazaré City Council.
The new results confirm, according to the Municipality, that the value “extraordinarily high” recorded in the analysis carried out on August 18, whose result was only known on the 20th, was anomalous and did not reflect the actual quality of the beach water. The city council also stresses that, throughout the bathing season, the water quality has shown adequate conditions.
During monitoring of the situation, no incident or discharge in the sewer system was identified that could justify the values recorded in the first analysis. In view of the initial result, and as a precaution to protect public health, the Municipality complied with the determinations of the competent authorities, prohibiting bathing and proceeding with the lowering of the Blue Flag.
The situation was continuously monitored by the municipality, in coordination with health and environmental authorities, while awaiting the results of the new sampling rounds.
With the confirmation of normal values, Nazaré Beach is once again available for bathing. The Municipality thanked residents, visitors and concessionaires for their understanding and reaffirmed its commitment to safety, public health, and the monitoring of bathing water quality.
