Sociedade Ponto Verde Gives Innovation a Platform with a New Web Series

July 2, 2026

The Sociedade Ponto Verde (SPV) launched this Wednesday the web series “Sociedade Ponto Verde: Packaging and Innovation Always on Point.” Composed of 12 episodes, the series highlights the role of innovation and new technological solutions in the evolution of packaging recycling in Portugal. The first episode is already available on SPV’s YouTube channel, as announced in a press release.

According to the same source, over three decades — which are not measured solely in years, but in impact — SPV has been a driver of evolution and innovation in the packaging recycling sector in Portugal, contributing to turning a still-emerging behavior into a socially recognized habit. Integrated into the celebrations of the entity’s 30th anniversary, this initiative shows how investment in technology, new processes, and collaboration among different players in the value chain are helping to make the system more efficient.

The note highlights that the Sociedade Ponto Verde has assumed, in its 30 years of activity, a leading role in innovation and invested in the development of solutions for the sector, with an accumulated investment of €18.9 million in innovation and R&D, which allowed the development of 120 studies and projects in partnership with more than 150 entities.

These projects have given rise to solutions such as artificial intelligence applied to the sorting of packaging waste, sensorization at eco-points to optimize collection routes, material traceability solutions, smart selective collection models, industrial automation, and tools to encourage citizen behavior.

Thus, with a focus on the role of innovation driven by SPV, each episode of the web series starts from a concrete challenge and follows the path to the solution, presenting innovative projects in which SPV has been involved, encouraging new responses to the challenges of packaging recycling.

In a context of increasingly stringent environmental targets, innovation plays a determining role in accelerating the evolution of the packaging recycling system. In Portugal, this challenge also represents an opportunity: the country has set the goal of recycling 65% of packaging placed on the market by 2029. Although there is still a long way to go, the strengthening of investment, the development of new solutions, and collaboration among different players in the sector are creating conditions to improve performance and bring the country closer to these targets.

“The Sociedade Ponto Verde has assumed a leadership role in the evolution of the packaging recycling system in Portugal. Over these three decades, we have worked to create conditions for innovation to happen, supporting solutions that improve the collection, valorization, and recycling of packaging. This web series is an opportunity to show that the circular economy is built through collaboration and the ability to find new answers. Because it is through innovation, creativity, and the will to transform the present that we will continue to build the future of packaging recycling,” says Ana Trigo Morais, CEO of Sociedade Ponto Verde.

The new series aims to highlight that packaging recycling is part of a system in constant evolution, in which innovation has been one of the main drivers of transformation, bringing the circular economy closer to the reality of businesses and citizens.

“Sociedade Ponto Verde: Packaging and Innovation Always on Point” invites you to follow this path of change and to discover how new solutions are shaping the future of recycling in Portugal — the first episode is already available on the Sociedade Ponto Verde YouTube channel and can be watched here.
