Sintra Receives 13 Green Key Awards

July 21, 2026

Sintra has been distinguished with 13 lodging establishments awarded the Green Key 2026, one of the most prestigious environmental certifications in the tourism sector, which recognises sustainable practices at national and international levels, as announced in a press release.

According to the same source, the National Ceremony for the Presentation of the Green Key 2026 Certificates was held in Funchal, bringing together representatives of hotel properties, public entities and organizations committed to promoting more sustainable tourism.

Coordinated in Portugal by the Blue Flag Association for the Environment and Education (ABAAE), the Green Key programme recognises establishments that implement effective environmental management measures, energy efficiency, waste reduction, protection of natural resources and guest awareness.

Applications for the award begin in October, and the International Green Key Programme will implement a new set of criteria and certification procedures for the 2026-2031 cycle, reinforcing international sustainability standards.
