SWAZILAND: Application submitted for HIV/AIDS millions
Swaziland has selected preferred drug suppliers for its HIV/AIDS drug programme and applied for a five-year grant for US $48.5 million from the Global AIDS Fund.
The request includes $7 million for the first year and is being considered in the fourth round of proposals, to be announced by the Fund in June.
UN Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa Stephen Lewis recently announced that Swaziland had overtaken Botswana's level of HIV infection and now had the world's highest HIV/AIDS prevalence.
According to Reuters, the grant is expected to provide home care for HIV-positive people, as well as health education and HIV prevention programmes.
