NIGERIA: Centre stage for AIDS at upcoming conference

HIV/AIDS is set to take centre stage from 2 to 5 May as Nigeria's 4th National Conference on HIV/AIDS opens in the capital, Abuja.

The conference is expected to focus on the national response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic, examining research achievements and future challenges.

Secretary of the organising committee, Dr Toyin Jolayemi, told a local newspaper, Daily Trust, that the objectives of the gathering were to provide a forum for interaction and sharing information on best practices among stakeholders, and generate issues for debate to inform policy-making.

It is estimated that as many as 7 million people are living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria.
