DRC: World Bank AIDS millions granted
The World Bank has provided a US $102 million grant to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to support the implementation of a national HIV/AIDS strategic plan.
Senior Bank official Keith Hansen, said the grant would help empower local communities to identify priorities and develop local responses to blunt the impact of the epidemic.
"This grant aims to help the DRC to scale up its actions to prevent the further spread of HIV and to improve the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS," Hansen said.
The DRC has the 23rd highest HIV/AIDS prevalence in Africa. The national HIV/AIDS programme estimates that 5 percent of all adults are living with HIV/AIDS.
