GHANA: Minister concerned about AIDS impact on children
Ghana's Minister of Women and Children's Affairs, Gladys Asmah, has called for activities that ease the impact of HIV/AIDS on children to be stepped up.
She told the Ghana News Agency that apart from the hardships experienced by children orphaned by HIV/AIDS, many of them had been forced to shoulder the responsibilities of their parents by becoming breadwinners.
Statistics for Ghana indicate that over 200,000 children under the age of 15 have already been orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS, but Asmah said she was concerned that the existing figure could be higher as many cases still had to be reported.
