GAMBIA: Health official warns of complacency
Gambia's department of health has warned that there should be "no room for complacency" when tackling HIV/AIDS.
Addressing a recent counselling workshop on HIV/AIDS, the deputy permanent secretary of the health department, Alhagie Omar Taal, said the country's development gains were already being seriously threatened by the pandemic.
Local newspaper The Independent quoted Taal as saying: "All our socio-economic development programmes and projects will be frustrated as a result."
He called for more effective national AIDS programmes, adding that proper counselling services were "necessary interventions for stemming the spread of HIV".
