The Regional Government of Madeira is investing 19.7 million euros in the construction project of the Loiral III and Paul wind farms, a project aimed at strengthening the production of electric energy from renewable sources.
In a press release, the Regional Secretariat for Equipment and Infrastructure indicates that the secretary in charge, Pedro Rodrigues, visited today the ongoing works at these wind farms, highlighting “the commitment of the Regional Government to the energy transition, through the valorization of Madeira’s endogenous resources”.
The contract, awarded in a public tender for a total value of 19.7 million euros, started in August last year and has a completion time of 435 days.
The official states in the release that these infrastructures, located in the municipalities of Ponta do Sol and Calheta, “increase the installed renewable capacity, reduce external energy dependency and contribute to a more sustainable future”.
In the Loiral III Wind Park, the project foresees two new wind turbines, which will guarantee a total capacity of 7.6 MW, while in Paul “the reequipment with a 3.8 MW wind turbine is underway”.
According to the Madeira government, from an environmental standpoint, boosting wind production capacity will allow reducing the use of fossil fuels and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
