The São Julião Beach hosted the flag-raising ceremony for the Blue Flag, the Accessible Beach – Beach for All flag, and the Gold Quality flag, distinctions that recognise environmental quality, accessibility and the excellence of the municipality’s bathing waters, as disclosed in a press release.
According to the same source, during this bathing season, the Blue Flag was awarded to the beaches of São Julião, Magoito, Maçãs, Grande and Adraga, distinguishing water quality, environmental management, safety, facilities and services. The beaches of São Julião, Maçãs and Grande also received the Accessible Beach – Beach for All distinction, while the beaches of São Julião, Magoito, Grande and Adraga were distinguished with Gold Quality, awarded by Quercus.
Francisco Duarte, vice-president of the Sintra City Council, underlined at this ceremony that “these flags are not merely symbols. They represent results, daily work, and a high level of rigor.”
The ceremony was also marked by the delivery of new equipment to concessionaires. Sunshades and canopies that will contribute to renewing the bathing equipment available on the municipality’s beaches.
The Sintra City Council continues to invest in improving the municipality’s beaches. In addition to renewing the bathing equipment, it ensures support for the presence of lifeguards, reinforces additional means of lifesaving and rescue, and relies on the support of Sintra Civil Protection for beach surveillance.
