The Portuguese Association of Renewable Energies (APREN) will promote, on 29 June, at Culturgest in Lisbon, the 11th edition of the APREN Prize, an initiative aimed at recognizing academic works of excellence in the fields of energy and sustainability, while also promoting debate on the challenges of the energy transition in Portugal, according to a press release.
According to the same source, the program begins at 14:15 and opens with the presentation of the study “Impact of Renewable Energies in Portugal – Results on employment, skills and talent needs up to 2030 and 2040,” conducted by Rui Faustino, Manager at EY-Parthenon. This is followed by remarks by Carlos Sampaio, COO of Elergone, dedicated to the challenges of attracting, developing and retaining talent in the renewable energy sector.
One of the central moments of the afternoon will be the debate “Preparing, Attracting and Retaining Talent: Challenges for Academia and the Sector,” scheduled for 14:40. The discussion will seek to answer the question of how to meet the talent needs of the energy transition up to 2040, bringing together representatives from industry, academia and public bodies.
The panel will include João Amaral, CEO of Principle Power, João Peças Lopes, Emeritus Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), Maria do Carmo Figueira, Director of the Environmental Assessment Department of the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), Maria João Rodrigues, IST-ID researcher, Patrícia Fortes, LNEG researcher and invited researcher at NOVA FCT, and Paulo Martins, from the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology (DGEG). The session will be moderated by Susana Serôdio, Policy and Market Intelligence Coordinator at APREN.
After a period for networking and visiting the prize candidate works, from 15:40, the APREN Prize ceremony will take place, in the Master’s and Doctorate categories, starting at 16:05.
The closing session is scheduled for 17:05 and will be conducted by Susana Serôdio.
The initiative aims to reinforce the importance of training and qualification of human resources to respond to the growing needs of the energy transition, at a time when the renewable energy sector is taking on an increasingly relevant role in the economy and in the decarbonization of the country.
