A commemorative forum marking the 50th anniversary of the Arrábida Natural Park will be held on the 28th, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Setúbal Museum/Convento de Jesus, with the launch of a Book of Honor for the anniversary, an institutional session, testimonies, and cultural notes, according to a statement.
According to the same source, the Forum: Celebration of the 50 years of Arrábida Natural Park, organized by the Setúbal City Hall and the ICNF – Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests, begins with a cultural item from the project “Listening to difference: The Wind of Peace,” of the Setúbal International Music Festival, with the participation of users of APPACDM and students of the Setúbal Regional Conservatory, directed by Aleksandar Caric Zar.
Then, at 5:00 p.m., an institutional round table with interventions by the Vice-President of the Setúbal City Council, Maria do Carmo Tiago, the presidents of the Palmela City Council, Ana Teresa Vicente, and the Sesimbra City Council, Francisco Jesus, the Secretary of State for the Environment, João Manuel Esteves, and the regional director for Nature Conservation and Forests of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley and a member of the ICNF’s board, Carlos Albuquerque.
The meeting continues with a speech on the 50 years of Arrábida Natural Park by Viriato Soromenho Marques, at 5:45 p.m., and the launch of the Book of Honor for the 50 years of Arrábida Natural Park, with the presentation of testimonies, scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
The closing is scheduled for 7:20 p.m., with cultural items “The Poetic Palette of Arrábida,” by João Reis Ribeiro, with Ana Acto, João Completo, and Nuno David, and “When my Soul wanders through the Serra,” by the Women of the Setúbal Voz Choir directed by conductor Jorge Salgueiro.
The commemorative session is the high point of the program of the 50th anniversary celebrations of Arrábida Natural Park, which also includes free activities for the whole family to be held, in July, in the three municipalities that make up the Arrábida Territory – Setúbal, Palmela and Sesimbra.
In this context, the Setúbal City Council organizes on the 25th, at 09:00, a hike along trails of the São Filipe hillside, starting near the Albarquel Urban Park, on a route of about 3.9 kilometers, of easy difficulty, with registrations by filling out an online form available at the link https://forms.gle/MUD4otbDoKaR1vL69.
The municipality of Setúbal also hosts, on the 24th and 25th, between 10:00 and 12:00, a set of activities for families, without the need for prior registration, taking place at Portinho da Arrábida, at Praia do Creiro, and at the Oceanographic Museum, run by the ICNF and the Restoreseagrass project.
Families are also the target audience for an activity to be held on the 26th, at 3:00 p.m., at the Alambre Environmental Park, which aims to showcase the richness of Arrábida’s fauna and flora and to identify reptiles and amphibians in their natural habitat, with biologist Bernardo Lam, organized by ICNF and YMCA-Setúbal.
On the 31st, from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Convento de Alferrara, in Quinta de São Paulo, the workshop “Ethics and Conservation of Nature in Mountain Activities” will take place, which includes a picnic and a guided visit, organized by the Federation of Camping and Mountaineering of Portugal, the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds, the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests, and the Association of Municipalities of the Setúbal Region.
