ETHIOPIA: Kiddie AIDS clinic planned for Addis
HIV-positive children in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, are to benefit from a new initiative by former US President Bill Clinton and the Christian Children's Fund of Canada (CCFC).
According to a joint statement, the collaboration will upgrade the ALERT Hospital, an existing AIDS care facility, to become the main paediatric treatment site in country.
Clinton said: "This partnership will quickly scale up the number of children being treated to a point where it can become a regional training centre for teams of healthcare workers from other clinics which now primarily treat adults."
In terms of the partnership agreement an additional 200 children will gain access to antiretroviral treatment in 2006, compared to only 10 who received treatment in 2005.
