NIGERIA: Number of ARV sites more than doubled

Nigeria has more than doubled its number of free antiretroviral (ARV) treatment facilities, the National Action Committee on AIDS (NACA) said on Tuesday.

According to NACA chairman Babatunde Osotimehin, this brought to 74 the number of sites operating since the government's free ARV plan kicked off early this year.

"We plan to set up more centres over the next few months to bring treatment as close to the people as we can," Reuter quoted Osotimehin as saying.

Treatment sites have opened in all 36 of the country's states, some of which have HIV prevalence rates touching 10 percent.
