MOZAMBIQUE: Joint anti-AIDS initiative targets police
Mozambique on Tuesday formalised a cooperation agreement with Population Services International (PSI) to address the impact of HIV/AIDS on its police force.
According to the official news agency, AIM, about US $100,000 had been allocated by President George Bush's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, to boost existing law enforcement anti-AIDS campaigns.
Although the new initiative currently targeted the capital Maputo, PSI and government officials hoped for a rapid expansion to all provinces.
Activities will include AIDS education with a focus on behaviour change; treatment of sexually transmitted illnesses, and HIV voluntary counselling and testing.
