ZIMBABWE: Sacred HIV/AIDS policy launched

Churches throughout Zimbabwe recently launched a comprehensive policy to address HIV/AIDS, based on Christian principles.

Speaking at the launch, Bishop Trevor Manhanga, president of the Heads of Christian Denominations, said that the church should assume a central role in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The new policy will focus on prevention and care and support for those affected, the Herald newspaper reported.

"Every preacher must become an activist in the fight against AIDS. We must tackle this problem of denial with all weapons at our disposal," he added.

David Parirenyatwa, Health and Child Welfare Minister, said the policy would be very helpful in fighting the pandemic but emphasised the need to "put the policy to use immediately in order to realise the benefits of it".
