ETHIOPIA: AIDS battle demands "special" attention - Govt
Ethiopian Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Hassen Abdellah has called on the nation to "pay special attention" to the impact of HIV/AIDS.
Speaking in an interview with the local Sarekel Magazine, Hassen warned that the pandemic posed a threat to national poverty alleviation efforts by affecting the prime productive segment of society.
"HIV/AIDS has the highest impact in countries like Ethiopia where the majority of people live below the poverty line and where the disease continues spreading," he commented.
Hassen recommended that individuals, families, government and NGOs display a greater sense of ownership when it came to the prevention and control of the pandemic.
