MALAWI: Lands ministry mobilizes against AIDS impact
Malawi has launched its first ever campaign to tackle the impact of HIV/AIDS on staff in the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Surveys.
According to Lands Minister Bazuka Mhango, the strategy was developed as a result of "perpetual absenteeism" and the deaths of workers from AIDS-related illnesses.
Mhango was reported by the local Chronicle newspaper as saying: "HIV/AIDS is a menace to the workforce ... as a result, the ministry is not performing to its expected capacity."
The programme aims to reduce HIV transmission, improve the quality life of those affected and infected, and promote behaviour change.
