MOZAMBIQUE: Private sector anti-AIDS programme launched
Mozambique's National Council for the Fight Against AIDS (CNCS) has launched the 'Avante' programme to address the impact of HIV/AIDS on the country's private sector.
According to CNCS, the US $2 million initiative is aimed at persuading the business community of "the benefits of carrying out activities against HIV/AIDS in the workplace, to guarantee the companies' own future".
At the launch of the programme on Monday in the capital, Maputo, Mozambican Industry and Trade Minister Antonio Fernando also urged the greater participation of workers in combating the pandemic.
The local news agency, AIM, quoted Fernando as saying: "If we want increased production it is necessary that our workers be healthy, both in the formal and in the informal sectors, particularly concerning HIV/AIDS."
