ZAMBIA: Youth AIDS group calls for NGO probe
The Young Christian Network Against HIV/AIDS Association of Zambia (YCNAHAZ) says there is a lack of transparency in the workings of local NGOs.
According to the network, organisations running various projects, including anti-AIDS initiatives, were not being held accountable for funds obtained from donors.
YCNAHAZ director Cozmo Mumba told the Times of Zambia newspaper that the situation was denting the image of NGOs in Zambia, which would affect the flow of donor resources.
Mumba urged the Anti-Corruption Commission to "vigorously investigate" cases of misappropriation in NGOs, so that they maintained their integrity and would remain eligible for further funding.
