TANZANIA: Global Fund to boost anti-AIDS efforts

The Global AIDS Fund over the wekend agreed to donate US $157 million towards Tanzania's fight against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB) and malaria.

This brought to $563 million the amount issued to the east African country since 2002, the Fund said in a statement.

Just over $54 million of the total grant has been allocated to providing treatment for malaria and TB, while the remainder will be used to target anti-AIDS efforts, including the support of orphans and vulnerable children.

The Tanzanian Ministry of Health estimates that seven percent of the country's adults - about two million people - are currently living with HIV/AIDS.
