ZAMBIA: Frank AIDS talk urged for youth
A UN official has advised Zambia to aim anti-AIDS messages at its youth, as young people present the best hope for the country in tackling the pandemic.
"Addresses should be targeted at youths before they become sexually active; do this through frank and open education campaigns, before they are exposed to sex-charged scenes," the UN Development Programme's resident representative, Aeneas Chuma, told the local Post newspaper.
He noted that youths should not be mere recipients, but the agents of change in behaviour.
Research shows that an estimated 75 percent of Zambia's population is under 30 years of age.
