ZAMBIA: UN backs country on herbal AIDS remedies

Zambia is to receive help from the World Health Organisation (WHO) in testing the efficacy of traditional medicines for use against HIV and AIDS.

According to WHO country representative Stella Anyangwe, the UN agency attached great importance to the use of traditional medicines as they had already contributed to the development of most modern drugs.

Anyangwe told the Zambia News Agency that WHO was also prepared to take the herbal remedies to countries with more advanced clinical testing equipment.

The southern African country recently conducted its own clinical tests on about 80 traditional medicines, believed to cure HIV/AIDS.
