ETHIOPIA: Alarming AIDS figure as government launches drug plan
Ethiopia's Ministry of Health said earlier this week that HIV/AIDS had claimed the lives of an estimated 90,000 adults and 25,000 children in 2004.
The figures were released during the government's launch of its new three-year treatment plan that will include the provision of free antiretrovirals to 320,000 HIV-positive people.
According to a local newspaper, The Daily Monitor, Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi said the government had already completed necessary preparations, and remained committed to countering the pandemic.
