NIGERIA: MSF to strengthen anti-AIDS efforts

The international medical relief agency, Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), is intensifying its HIV/AIDS treatment efforts in Nigeria.

MSF has 250 HIV-positive people enrolled in its antiretroviral programme, and hopes to establish a model of comprehensive care and support that will reduce HIV/AIDS morbidity and mortality.

Agence France-Presse quoted MSF spokeswoman, Tracy Crawford, as saying: "We are building capacity to fight the disease and encouraging people to get off the streets and come forward voluntarily for treatment."

More than five percent of Nigeria's 126 million people are living with HIV and AIDS.
