ZAMBIA: Huge slice of US funding goes to HIV/AIDS

The US will pledge $102 million to Zambia this year for HIV/AIDS, and private sector development and education, the American ambassador to Zambia, Martin Brennan, has said.

Brennan told a local newspaper, The Times of Zambia, that the funds would be released once approval had been received from the US congress.

HIV/AIDS is to receive a large portion of the funding, with $87 million allocated specifically to tackling the pandemic.

The country has an estimated 16 percent of adults aged between 15 and 49 living with the HI virus.
