SWAZILAND: Kiddie HIV/AIDS clinic begins construction
Swaziland welcomed the start of construction on its first HIV and AIDS clinic for children this week.
The paediatric clinic, modelled on a similar centre in Botswana's capital, Gaborone, is expected to provide nutritional, psychological, social and child-life services, along with comprehensive primary and HIV/AIDS speciality care.
It will also be used for training healthcare professionals and conducting research in this tiny southern African kingdom, which has been hard-hit by the pandemic. The centre is scheduled to open in December 2005.
Swaziland has an estimated HIV/AIDS prevalence rate of close to 40 percent.
