ZAMBIA: Health programmes receive US cash boost
The US Agency for International Development this week pledged $24 million over the next six years to Zambia for treating drinking water and to combat malaria and HIV/AIDS.
According to a statement from the US embassy, "The project... will use proven strategies for making affordable, preventive health care products and services more accessible and available to low-income Zambians."
The money will be spent on providing improved access to voluntary counselling and testing services, with the aim of improving knowledge and attitudes, and dispelling the stigma attached to HIV and AIDS.
The funds are to be coordinated by the Zambian government and the independent Society for Family Health.
