BOTSWANA: US ambassador predicts ultimate AIDS victory
The US ambassador to Botswana, Joseph Huggins, says the country may ultimately win the battle against HIV and AIDS, although it could be a slow and mammoth process, according to a local newspaper, The Daily News.
Addressing a recent HIV/AIDS gathering in the Ngamiland district in the north of the country, Huggins said knowing one's status and living accordingly were among the necessary tools in the fight against pandemic.
He urged individuals to get tested for HIV and tackle the AIDS "crisis head-on by tearing down the walls of fear, stigma and denial", and also pointed out the benefits of the country's free antiretroviral drug programme for people who tested positive.
