NAMIBIA: Official AIDS guidelines launched
A set of guidelines governing the conduct of research and clinical trials on human subjects, including HIV-positive subjects, has been released by Namibia's Ministry of Health.
Published at the same time was a research management policy to monitor the influx of HIV/AIDS researchers into the southern African country.
According to a local newspaper, The Namibian, the ministry had to date conducted research in the absence of an explicit research policy, which had contributed to the ineffective management of research activities and the duplication of some topics.
During Thursday's launch of the guidelines, Minister of Health Libertine Amathila said the research standards had come at a time when "everybody is knocking on our door to do research on HIV/AIDS".
