NIGERIA: Local AIDS drug production close
Nigeria will soon be manufacturing anti-AIDS locally after President Olusegun Obasanjo appealed to expatriates for investment.
Prince Chijioke Ofomata, the managing director of the company, Archy Pharmaceuticals, said the firm intended to produce "branded generics and make them affordable to Nigerians and other HIV-positive people in Africa."
Some 4 million people living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria are expected to benefit from the cheaper anti-AIDS drugs.
Ofomata told the BBC the plant would be located in Alagbado village, near Lagos, and will conform to international drug manufacturing standards.
