MOZAMBIQUE: Hundreds of calls daily for AIDS hotline

A free HIV/AIDS hotline recently set up in Mozambique is now answering 300 calls daily, the Pan African News Agency reported.

The service was established by the Community Development Foundation (FDC), one of the country's most prominent NGOs, and can be accessed from any landline in Mozambique or from mobile phones operated by M-Cel, a subsidiary of the publicly-owned Telecommunications de Mozambique (TDM).

According to an FDC statement, there has been a steady increase in the number of people using the hotline, rising from 2,631 calls in January to 8,100 by March.

"These numbers show an evident growth in public demand for clarification of doubts concerning HIV/AIDS," the FDC said.
