MOZAMBIQUE: Hospital for HIV-positive children opened

The first hospital for children living with the HI virus opened this week Mozambique, where around 30,000 HIV-positive children are born each year.

Research shows that there are currently 68,000 children under the age of five living with disease.

"Over 50 percent of them die within the first year, and half of the remainder do not survive the second year," Christiane Rudert, the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) project officer for Nutrition and Child Health, told PlusNews.

The new hospital in the capital, Maputo, is expected to facilitate integrated support services to children living with HIV/AIDS than was previously available.
