ETHIOPIA: US millions granted for AIDS plan
Ethiopia has been granted US $18 million by the United States to implement an HIV/AIDS emergency relief plan, a local newspaper, the Addis Tribune, reported.
The funds are part of a five-year multibillion dollar pledge by US President George W Bush to help tackle the pandemic in 14 of the world's most affected countries.
Randall Tobias, coordinator of the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, said the grant would be used to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV, support AIDS orphans, promote testing and counselling services and upgrade the country's drug management system.
