ETHIOPIA: AIDS peer education training programme launched
Two international groups have launched a training exercise to help peer educators increase the level of HIV/AIDS awareness in Southern Ethiopia.
The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and Development Cooperation Ireland (DCI) aims to train 500 peer educators over the coming weeks.
Charles Kwenin, head of the IOM office in the capital, Addis Ababa, said in a statement that the initiative would also support local health institutions and administrative structures, and expand existing anti-AIDS programmes.
"The project aims to increase levels of awareness and promote behavioural changes among migrant workers, internally displaced persons and the resident communities in Southern Ethiopia," Kwenin added.
