NIGERIA: High police AIDS incedence feared

The Commissioner of Police for Nigeria's Enugu State, Maurice Abe, has expressed concern over the high incidence of HIV/AIDS within the police force.

He blamed the high incidence of HIV/AIDS on the "constant transfers" of the police force around the country.

However, in an interview with the local Daily Trust newspaper, Abe said: "Although there is no excuse for policemen to misbehave, we are highly mobile without our families."

Abe urged all police officers to take the issue of HIV infection seriously by getting tested and gathering enough information on prevention and management of the disease.
