NIGERIA: Drug giant slashes antiretroviral prices

Pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has announced a further price reduction across its full range of HIV/AIDS drugs in Nigeria.

The company said its "preferential pricing programme" was aimed at ensuring that people living with HIV/AIDS had adequate access to the best drugs available, irrespective of their economic status.

The drugs were currently available to NGOs, UN agencies, military establishments, and employers offering treatment and care to their staff at designated centres in different parts of the country.

Organisations wanting to be part of the GSK programme were urged to contact the company's HIV/AIDS manager.

The local Vanguard newspaper quoted GSK’s HIV/AIDS manager, Folake Adeniji, as saying: "Anyone with symptoms of HIV or AIDS should seek early medical care at the designated centres, so that they can benefit from the price reduction."
