NAMIBIA: More cash for HIV/AIDS group

An AIDS NGO in Namibia is set to benefit from a US $1.3 million Global AIDS Fund grant, local newspaper The Namibian reported on Monday.

AIDS Care Trust director, Apere Davids, said the organisation expected around US $273,000 per year for the next five years after the Global Fund approved a joint Namibian proposal for a grant to fight HIV, TB and malaria.

The NGO was readying its volunteers for more work in anticipation of receiving the grant.

"We are preparing the manpower towards the provision of HIV/AIDS drugs. It is just a matter of when the money will arrive," Davids said.

The successful application for the grant was the result of cooperation between the country's Legal Assistance Centre the AIDS Care Trust.
