NIGERIA: Thumbs-up for AIDS testing and counselling
A voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) programme proposed by an AIDS NGO has been well-received in Nigeria, the local Daily Trust newspaper reported on Tuesday.
The Centre for the Right to Health said positive public response to the programme in the capital, Abuja, was encouraging.
Emmanuel Atuma, the Abuja programme coordinator, said "In about twenty years of responses to the AIDS epidemic, many communities and nations have demonstrated that it is possible to reduce the spread of HIV."
He added that more countries globally acknowledging VCT as a means of effectively controlling HIV/AIDS transmission was "a good development".
