GHANA: NGOs fail to report on spending

Ghana's AIDS Commission is struggling to monitor spending among AIDS NGOs, local newspaper Accra Mail reported on Wednesday.

The commission said the failure by NGOs to submit reports to their office had presented an obstacle in the monitoring process.

Emmanuel Larbi, the commission's monitoring and evaluation coordinator, said poor monitoring was the result of misappropriation of funds by many of the NGOs.

In order to effectively tackle the problem, Larbi said the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) had been adopted as the commission's new monitoring agent.
