BURKINA FASO: More support for PWAs

More than 500 delegates at a national conference on Tuesday called for the funding of treatment programmes for people living with HIV/AIDS (PWAs) in Burkina Faso.

Attending the country's first national conference on HIV/AIDS, participants recommended that HIV/AIDS prevention activities be integrated into all development programmes and projects.

According to a UN Developmenr Programme press release, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Cooperation Youssouf Ouedraogo, said the government would make every effort to implement the resulting recommendations.

Using the UN-prepared National Human Development Report 2001 as a main reference, the conference warned that life expectancy could decline to 44 years by 2010.

UNAIDS estimates that 6.5 of the country's adults aged between 15 and 49 are HIV-positive.
