NAMIBIA: Free drugs to PWAs, govt says
The Namibian government will make antiretrovirals freely available to all people living with HIV/AIDS, local newspaper The Namibian reported on Friday.
Health minister Libertina Amathila said an international company has already been awarded the tender to supply the drugs within two months.
However, The AIDS Law Unit says that nothing concrete has been presented to back the government's promise.
"This could just be a response to questions raised at the time. We are in the process of looking into it," AIDS Law Unit official, Delme Cupido, told the UN news service PlusNews.
Addressing the National Assembly last week, a senior government official called on the authorities to tackle the country's HIV/AIDS crisis.
