BOTSWANA: Traditional HIV/AIDS education

An Botswana AIDS NGO on Tuesday launched a series of videos to educate people on HIV treatment and prevention.

The African Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Partnerships (ACHAP) said the three 15-minute videos will play in patient waiting areas in 120 hospitals and clinics across the country.

"The videos address the issue of stigma. These real-life stories will encourage more people to come forward," an education consultant for the national antiretroviral therapy programme (Masa), Prathima Naidoo, told the UN news service PlusNews.

The video documentaries are said to complement the oral tradition of communicating and educating.

"It makes a difference when you see a person from your own culture, speaking in Setswana and telling you how you can get support for living with HIV/AIDS," Stephen Ssebaggala of the Botswana Network of AIDS Service Organisations told PlusNews.
