NIGERIA: NGO warns of AIDS cure sharks
Conventional and traditional doctors are extorting money from people living with HIV/AIDS (PWAs) by claiming to have a cure for the disease, HIV/AIDS organisation ActionHealth has warned.
"There has been a recent spate of claims for HIV/AIDS cures, not just by traditional healers but also by registered medical doctors," ActionHealth co-founder Dr Uwem Esiet told the UN news service PlusNews on Wednesday.
The Federal Ministry of Health encourages people claiming to have developed a cure for HIV/AIDS to come forward and have their research authenticated, Esiet said.
"PWAs must consult an HIV/AIDS network or a support group close to them before paying for medication," Esiet warned.
