LESOTHO: Call for "aggressive" media campaign

The UN's resident representative in Lesotho has called on the country's media to embark on an "aggressive campaign" to make people aware of the threat posed by HIV/AIDS.

"It is shocking that more news about Lesotho comes from outside of the country," Scholastica Kimaryo told the UN news service PlusNews on Monday.

More had to be done by the media in making the rest of the world aware of the "incestuous link" between HIV/AIDS and famine in Lesotho, Kimaryo said.

"Our local media is an important partner in this exercise and should take this as a collective or personal mission to inform and educate people about HIV/AIDS," Kimaryo added.
