Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal Hosts International Conference on Digital and Green Transition in Maritime Ports

June 20, 2026

The Setúbal Polytechnic Institute (IPS) hosts, on June 24 and 25, the NEXUS International Conference – DGTMP 2026, a leading international event on innovation, sustainability and digitalization in the port and logistics sectors.

Taking place on IPS’s Setúbal campus, under the theme “Digital and Green Transition in Maritime Ports: Trends and Challenges,” the event brings together international experts, researchers and sector decision-makers for two days of “in-depth debate,” the institution said in a press release.

The conference results from a joint initiative between IPS and the Administration of the Ports of Sines and Algarve (APS), with the partnership of the Universities of Évora, Coimbra and Aveiro, within the framework of the NEXUS Mobilizing Agenda, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).

Comprising around 40 partner entities, it is “an innovation consortium whose objective is to accelerate the sharing of scientific and technological knowledge applied to the green and digital transition in the logistics and transport ecosystems,” explains IPS.

Over two days, the NEXUS International Conference program is structured around thematic panels dedicated to cybersecurity, unmanned vehicles and port innovation, among other topics. Scientific results will also be presented in the areas of artificial intelligence applied to logistics, terminal automation and energy efficiency.

“This conference represents a unique opportunity to bring academic research closer to the real needs of the port sector,” explains the Nexus project coordinator at IPS, the lecturer Tiago Pinho, from the School of Business and Management Sciences (ESCE/IPS).

For his part, Angela Lemos, president of the institution, “IPS has been strengthening its ties to the maritime and port sector, and this conference is the most visible reflection of that commitment.”
