This is the third consecutive year in which the European project “NauticinBlu Europe” comes to Portugal, under the auspices of the Association for the Investigation of the Marine Environment (AIMM).
During four days in May, 200 eighth-year students from the Ferreiras Basic School and the Professora Diamantina Negrão Basic School, in the Algarve region of Albufeira, participated in the activities of this initiative created by the Italian organization Marevivo, whose aim is to promote ocean literacy, environmental awareness, and marine conservation among younger generations.
The activities included field trips for dolphin watching led by AIMM researchers in collaboration with AlgarExperience, as well as an educational and collaborative “peddy paper,” where the students could apply the knowledge acquired throughout the program.
The closing of this year’s edition took place on May 28, but not before the students participated in the creation of a “final creative legacy of the project,” as AIMM describes, with participation in the collective painting of a themed mural at the Ferreiras Basic School, created by the Algarvean artist Seres.

The association says that the mural was inspired by the ecosystems and marine species of the Algarve’s Recife do Algarve Marine Natural Park – Pedra do Valado, “leaving a lasting visual and educational message about the importance of marine conservation within the school community.”
