The W Algarve renewed, for the third consecutive year, the prestigious Green Key certification. Granted by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and managed in Portugal by ABAAE (Blue Flag Association of Environment and Education), this recognition consolidates the resort’s vision of combining a vibrant luxury experience with a positive and conscious impact on the local community and ecosystem, as announced in a press release.
According to the same source, sustainability and mindful innovation are fundamental pillars for W Algarve, and therefore the hotel’s commitment has been continually designed to reflect the perfect balance between sophisticated service and environmental preservation.
The Green Key award attests that the hotel meets stringent sustainability criteria. Currently, the W Algarve uses 100% renewable electricity and counts 144 solar panels, avoiding about 185 tonnes of COâ‚‚ per year. It also has 21 electric vehicle chargers, has significantly reduced single-use plastics, and implemented smart systems to save energy and water.
In 2025, it recycled 160 kg of Nespresso capsules, contributing to a program that supported the Food Bank with 107,500 kg of rice. The resort also regularly supports the Food Bank, CASA Albufeira and Refúgio Aboim Ascensão, through donations and activities for children.
Annually, the W Algarve also contributes food and towels to Tiny Shelter, in Guia, which hosts more than 90 dogs.
This distinction reaffirms the W Algarve’s commitment to leading by example in luxury hospitality in Portugal, demonstrating that sophistication, excellent gastronomy, and well-being can coexist in full harmony with environmental responsibility.
