After a year in which Portugal and Spain accounted for 43% of all burned area in the European Union (EU), Goparity, an impact investment platform, launches an investment campaign to reforest 50 hectares with native species in regions affected by wildfires, according to a press release.
According to the same source, with the aim of financing Asturian Bosquia Nature – a company that has carried out more than 400 forest restoration projects since 2019 – the campaign seeks to raise 500,000 euros, of which more than 126,000 euros have already been invested by a total of 883 members of the Goparity community.
According to data from the European Forest Fire Information System, in 2025 the EU recorded the most devastating wildfire season on record, with more than one million hectares of land burnt. Faced with the loss of biodiversity, fertile soil and land capable of sustaining life, Bosquia Nature seeks to reforest regions of Southern Europe – namely Asturias, Galicia and Castile and León – that were affected by the fire. Each plot is assessed before any intervention, respecting the natural soil regeneration time, and only after that are native species planted such as holm oak, oak, chestnut, strawberry tree, willow and pine.
“The consequences of climate change are increasingly visible, and the fires that, year after year, continue to devastate thousands of regions are a sign that action is needed. With this campaign we want to invite the community to contribute to reforesting land affected by fire, while receiving financial returns, in a model where forests generate revenues through carbon credits. It is a clear example of how impact investment can have concrete results on the ground,” explains Nuno Brito Jorge, CEO and cofounder of Goparity.
The reimbursement to investors is based on two sources of Bosquia Nature’s revenue. On one hand, each ton of CO₂ captured by the new forests will be measured, certified and sold as carbon credits to companies. In addition to this income is the revenue from services provided by Bosquia Nature to organizations, such as support in project development and in CO₂ management, which sustains the return of invested capital and reinforces the financial solidity of the project.
Rafael Permuy, CEO and cofounder of Bosquia Nature, adds: “For us, it is especially valuable to establish a connection with people who understand that an investment can go far beyond financial profitability. Each person who participates in this campaign helps us drive the recovery of our forests and becomes part of a project that demonstrates that creating economic value and a positive environmental impact can go hand in hand.”
The project also includes an estimated reduction of 300 tonnes of CO₂ per year, the creation of seven local jobs for land preparation and three permanent positions for maintenance, in addition to long-term agreements with landowners, who remain involved in the project.
